2006 Recipient: Shirley Pechter American Cancer Society - Three-time president of the Board of Directors, Shirley has been involved in close to 30 projects throughout the years, helped in the establishment of a permanent home for the Blair Unit.  Penn State Altoona - Created the Fred A. Pechter Endowed Scholarship, Co-chair of the Penn State Altoona 65th Anniversary Celebration, Steering Committee in Altoona and New York City.  Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art - The Shirley and Fred A. Pechter Gallery, Board of Trustees for 19 years., the purchase of artwork for their Permanent Collection, Altoona Symphony Orchestra - Board Member, Committee Member, Endowment for the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and 2002 YWCA Tribute to Woman award winner. Pechter serves on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA), Altoona Symphony Orchestra and Home Nursing Agency.  She also has served in every executive position on the board of Temple Beth Israel.  In 1999, Pechter was selected as the first female president in the temple’s 125-year history and only the fifth for a reform temple in the United States Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.
